James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, better known as the Winter Soldier, is a prominent figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed by Sebastian Stan. His first appearance as the Winter Soldier was in the film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Initially, Bucky served as Steve Rogers' closest friend and comrade during World War II, fighting alongside him against Hydra. Presumed dead after falling from a train during a mission, Bucky was recovered by Soviet forces.
Brainwashed and physically enhanced, he became a highly skilled assassin known as the Winter Soldier. He was cryogenically frozen between missions, extending his lifespan and ensuring his obedience. Equipped with a vibranium arm and expertly trained in combat and espionage, the Winter Soldier carried out numerous assassinations for Hydra and the Soviet Union for decades.
Eventually, Captain America helps Bucky recover his memories, and he begins a long path to redemption.
